Outbcg:"Drømmer om storhet"has been published in Norway in 2002 and is available in english language since 2008
Do you have a plan currently to release it in other language?

Pål H. Christiansen:If you mean publishing physical books in new languages there are no plans at the moment. “Drømmer om storhet” is so far published in Norwegian (2001), German (2007) and English (2008).
I published the English version on my own publishing company Fabula in order to reach the largest language group among the a-ha fans, the one with english as first or second language or with sufficient knowledge to enjoy an English translation. But to reach a broader audience in some of the other languages a local publisher must do the job, like in Germany, where Drømmer om storhet (Die Ordnung der Worte, Rockbuch Verlag) has reached a broader audience than the most eager a-ha fans.
As you may know the whole book is translated to Italian, too, but no publisher is found yet. The French translation isn’t finished yet, but some chapters of these two last mentioned translations have been published on my blog to give readers out there an impression of the book, and to give me an opportunity to get in touch with potential publishers in France and Italy. This hasn’t really worked out.
There are readers asking for Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese versions all the time, also other languages, but this is a difficult task without good connections. A good thing is that I have an English version to send around.

Outbcg:What would you like people keep in mind after reading this book?

Pål H. Christiansen:First of all to remember to keep dreams alive! But at the same time to keep their feet on the ground and be aware of the reality around them. When Hobo meets Paul Waaktar-Savoy in the novel he understands that it is possible to both make dreams come true and at the same time be an ordinary family man taking responsibility for himself and his family. Until that point he has fled the fact that he is to become a father. I also hope the readers can laugh at it all and enjoy themselves. Humour is an important part of life! Finally Drømmer om storhet really is a tribute to both a-ha and Paul-Waaktar Savoy. And that’s not a joke. ©outofbluecomesgreen

Outbcg:Do you think that the internet has an positive impact on the world of writing and publishing?

Pål H. Christiansen:I think it both have some positive impacts and some negative. Internet gives new possibilities for everybody to share ones work without a physical book, like e-books or simply publishing on a blog or a website. It also makes it much easier for an author to connect to a group of readers and communicate with them and sell (selfpublished) books through internet rather that physical bookstores. At the same time the old publishing system seems to weaken, and that’s not only good news, I think. The traditional publishers have a lot of experience and knowledge in editing manuscripts and working long term with authors, and this is essential to make good books. ©outofbluecomesgreen

Outbcg:do you have a favorite author?

Pål H. Christiansen:I have many. But one I like to mention is the Argentine writer Julio Cortazar. I love his mixture of dreamlike stories and magic. There are traces of such writing in Drømmer om storhet, and that’s why some people find it a little strange. What’s happening with Hobo? Is he crazy? Or just a very unreliable narrator? ©outofbluecomesgreen

Outbcg:What projects are you working on now?

Pål H. Christiansen:I am writing a new childrens book about the cod Fjodor. This will be the fifth book about the unruly fish and his friend Palle. It’s quite exciting times for Fjodor these days, because the German publisher Terzio will publish the first book in the series next year, and the well known composer Felix Janosa will make songs that will be included at a CD with the book. Terzio considers to publish the second book after that, again with new songs. I also try to finish a sequel of Humle & Honning at the time being, my romantic novel from 2001. ©outofbluecomesgreen

Outbcg: thank you Pål
